9 Ways to Get You in the Mood After 50 and Keep Passion Alive

It’s a common misconception in our modern society that as you age, you lose interest in sex.

We believe this so much that we rarely think of people after a certain age as sexual, when in fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

While there are some physical changes in your body as you grow older, that doesn’t mean you become any less interested in sex. Nor that sex continues to play a vital role in a healthy lifestyle.

In spite of diminishing hormones and the end of our fertile years, many women remain interested in sexual pleasure even in the years after menopause.

We still can have great sex in our middle years (1). We still feel desire, enjoy fantasies and have orgasms.

In fact, research shows that mature women have and enjoy as much sex as they used to in their early 40s.

Sex can be even better in later life (2).

I this because:

  • We feel less inhibited or less restrained?
  • We found more confidence or have a ‘less care’ attitude?
  • Do we relax more, knowing that we can’t get pregnant or that we won’t be interrupted?

Whatever the reason, it’s a MYTH that we STOP wanting sex as we grow older especially after menopause.

You only have ONE sex life. Challenge any thoughts that are holding you back and LIVE!

As we get older, we need to feel sexy and turned on. We need reminders that we are beautiful, desired, interesting, and appreciated in non-sexual ways before we can get engage with our sexual selves.

Once we’re getting that, we can begin to look at what we need to do for our mojos.

So in the lines below, we’ll address a delicate topic – ways to get you in the mood after 50 – to enlivening your sexual energy, body confidence, and sexual know-how.

1. Make Time…

Hey, we get it, we’ve all got busy schedules. And while in the early stages of a relationship, there’s nothing nicer than spending some alone-time with your partner, as the relationship changes, so do your priorities.

After a long day, you’re more tempted by a restful sleep, than by a session of dirty fun, and that’s understandable.

It’s also the main reason why intimacy tends to disappear from relationships.

Sex is an important part of our lives, one that fulfills a need both on a physical, as well as on an emotional level.

When those needs go unmet, both the body and the mind become rattled.

An unfulfilling sex life leads to crankiness, frustration, self-doubt, and a hoard of other negative things that, in the long run, affect (and sometimes even ruin) your relationship.

So make sure you make time for intimacy, in spite of how busy your schedule is!

2. …But Don’t Treat It as a Chore!

If you’re in a committed, long-term relationship, it’s quite common to view sex as something of a chore, rather than a pleasure.

The first thing you need to remember is that sex is supposed to be fun, not a duty.

It’s not doing the dishes or vacuuming, it’s an act of release and connection to be shared with your significant other.

So whenever you find yourself thinking of sex (or even doing it) with a “soldier on” mentality, stop.

Instead, take a moment and think of something arousing and appealing to you.

Try to remember how fun sex used to be! Where did that go?

3. Spice It Up a Little

There’s a lot of unjustified stigma around sex toys and apparel in our modern culture, and it may be impacting your sex life.

Maybe you think you’re not into that sort of thing, or that “traditional” sexual relations are enough for you.

But quite often, a little external stimulation can be just what you need to get your relationship back on track.

It’s not about being “freaky”, but about the novelty.

It’s natural in any relationship that, in time, sex gets a little… repetitive.

Well, that’s where sex toys can really make a difference, by bringing back the excitement of your first encounters.

In general, trying new things helps you know yourself better and improves your mood, and there’s no reason why things shouldn’t be the same in the bedroom.

4. Exercise

It is now pretty much a given that regular exercise can make an enormous difference to our quality of life.

We see all the time women that become somewhat obsessed with exercising to burn calories and lose fat but what you might not know is that exercising real benefit lies in its ability to help build and regenerate new tissue and get our bodies running at a higher metabolic rate.

With regular exercise, everything improves – our skin, our hair, our heart, our brain and memory, our sex life – while the risk of many diseases reduces.

The hardest part is getting started.

Whether it’s yoga, walking, running, swimming, weights – at home, in the gym, or outdoors – once exercise becomes part of your life and daily routine, a strong, toned body, and mind will be yours.

Exercise will automatically help you in the bedroom, in more ways than one.

  • First, there’s the obvious connection, since sex is also physical exercise, and the fitter you are, the less you have to worry about it.
  • Secondly, exercise will help in the bedroom because it will boost your self-confidence.

It’s not uncommon for ladies of any age to struggle a bit with their self-image, so exercise is a two-for-one sort of deal, in this case.

5. If You’re Single, Take Steps to Rectify That

Most of the advice on this list will help you regardless if you’re single or in a long-term relationship, but for this one, let’s focus on all the single ladies.

Being single is always quite a blow to your self-esteem at any age, but it becomes even more damaging as you age.

Being single after 50 can lead to all sorts of negative assumptions, most commonly that you are no longer attractive.

That’s far from true.

Usually, you get to this place because of emotional baggage, waning self-confidence, and even fewer socializing opportunities. Not at all because you’re unattractive.

No matter what your situation for being single is, there are still ways to get you in the mood and feel pleasure.

Self-pleasure or self-love

And yes, you guessed it right!

Masturbation is a very clear term but has negative connotations for many. So, let’s call it self-love or self-pleasure.

If you never tried the self-loving practice, you wouldn’t think about it but you must know that nothing will get your mojo back quicker than some good old self-loving.

Tips for ‘intimate self-pleasure:

  • Enjoy some ‘me-time’ – spend a few minutes transitioning from your busy world to the world of self-love;
  • Run yourself a nice relaxing bath, light candles, listen to some music, read or watch something sexy to get you in the mood;
  • Breath deeply for a few minutes and then start touching yourself with curiosity;
  • This part can be a battle between your shame and your empowerment but you’ll need to take it seriously. Negative self-talk will push you away from orgasm.
  • Give yourself about 20 minutes of self-loving before bringing yourself to orgasm;
  • If you don’t know how to get there, have forgotten, or want to up-skill and try new ways to come, join Mystery Pleasure Box.

A minimum of 20 minutes three times a week will fuel your desire levels, as long as you’re enjoying yourself.

So if you’re single and unhappy about that, then take the initiative.

Also, take up a new class, go out with your gal pals, do things that invite socialization. Give a chance to change the single statute.

6. Try a Dating App

Well, this one’s really an addition to that last tip.

But it’s worth throwing out there, because it is a common misconception, especially among people of a certain age, that dating apps are all about sex.

While that may have been true at one point, in recent years, dating apps have grown to cater to a much wider audience.

Nowadays, a lot of the people you’ll meet on dating apps are looking for something more than just a one-night stand, so it might be worth trying out.

There really is nothing quite like a new romance to boost your self-confidence and remind you how attractive you are!

7.  Devote Time to Fantasies

It’s not healthy to spend too much time fantasizing, as it generally takes away from reality.

But it’s also not healthy to forsake fantasizing as something puerile and pointless. Good, exciting fantasy is just what you need to get you in the mood and spark some passion.

  • Recall your sexiest encounters or imagine what you’d like to try.
  • Use your favorite sex or love scene from a movie or a novel to whet your appetite before.
  • Imagine yourself in the scenes, and if that incorporates your partner, even better. But if it doesn’t, don’t be ashamed or worry. They are just fantasies and not plans.

8. Tell Your Partner What You Want

Once you’ve had that fantasy, why not communicate it to your partner?

A surprising percentage of couples have trouble communicating, particularly when it comes to the bedroom, and that only dampens the experience.

Literally one of the smartest moves to boost confidence and improve your sex life is to have an open-minded chat with your partner about what you find appealing.

Here are some tips for successful communication:

  • Take some time and think about what you want to say (make notes if necessary);
  • Schedule a ‘talk time’ that suits both (avoid any busy time: social occasions, bed-time, kids activities, or car journeys). You need quality talk-time.
  • Make yourself clear and don’t contradict yourself just to make your partner feel better;
  • Keep it short but to the point.
  • Be calm and keep breathing;
  • If you feel yourself getting upset, angry, or fearful, stop and take a break but let your partner know that you will return – and make sure you do.
  • Express your feelings and needs. There is nothing wrong with them and your partner only needs to understand them, not to agree with you or meet your needs. That should be a different conversation.

9. Indulge in a Little Adult Fiction

Okay, we all laughed at things like 50 Shades of Grey, but as it turns out, it’s a pretty sure-fire way to get yourself in the mood, hence its popularity.

A dose of 18+ fiction can spice up your own imagination and get you feeling sensual and Fresh Fiction Box Not to Miss it might be just what you need.

Fresh Fiction Box Not to Miss – Monthly subscription box – Price: $24.95 / month.

Much like any other type of fiction, it makes you feel like you are living this alternative life, having this adventure.

In turn, that boosts your energy and makes you more open.

And for bonus points – you might even pick up one or two ideas to try next time you’re in the bedroom!

How to Choose the Right Facial Serum Based on Your Skin Type

Right Facial Serum Based on Your Skin Type

Serums didn’t exist in our mothers’ time, but they are no mystery anymore. They are generally more active than moisturizers and are specially designed to treat and repair the skin.

An effective serum will contain the highest level of active ingredients possible, clearly matched to the problem they are trying to address.

They should not be overloaded with additional ingredients, like sunscreens, that could compromise their performance.

One of the benefits of serums is that they are lighter in texture and are absorbed almost instantly into the skin, making them extremely popular especially in hot climates.

While a heavy cream can leave the skin feeling greasy and weighty, serums make the skin soft and smooth instantly.

Coming from organic sources, many of these oils are not only healthy, but non-comedogenic, meaning you don’t need to worry about them clogging the pores, and creating more mess.

Still, it can be difficult to know which is the right facial serum based on your skin type.

For example, you’ll hear a lot of people praising coconut oil for its many health benefits – but how do you know if it’s the right oil for someone like you?

You don’t – but that’s why we’ve written this article. Ideally, the lines below will help you identify the right plant-based oil for your skin type.

So without further ado, let’s get to it.

We’ll talk about how to figure out your skin type, first, and then we’ll move to the oils themselves.

What’s your skin type?

Oily, combination, dry – what if you’re all three?

While that’s not normally the case, it can still seem like a job and a half figuring out what your skin type is.

Quite often, women end up causing more damage to their skin because they’re using improper products.

For example, if you have oily skin, but use products formulated for normal skin, you can end up doing more harm than good.

So knowing your type is vital in choosing the right skincare products.

Oily skin

As its name suggests, oily skin tends to produce a lot of oil.

If you’re always cringing because of that greasy look your face has, then it’s probably oily skin.

If you require blotting paper or a lot of powder, or if your skin always seems to have that greasy glow to it, then your type is probably oily.

Oily types also have a predisposition to acne, so if you’re constantly bursting pimples (which, by the way, you shouldn’t be doing this), then again, you’re probably dealing with oily skin.

Dry skin

Alternatively, you could be faced (excuse the pun) with excessively dry skin.

Ironically, this problem is caused by a lack of oil in the skin, which makes it appear permanently dried out, sensitive and flaky.

While dry skin is pretty easy to spot, make sure you don’t get it confused with dehydration.

Dry skin is generally a chronic issue that you will manage, but not eliminate, whereas dehydration is usually a temporary problem.

Combination skin

The trickiest one yet!

People with combination skin can never tell their skin type because they’re usually working with patches.

Usually, their T-zone (nose and forehead) and chin tend to be on the oily side, while the upper forehead and cheeks can be unusually dry.

Ergo combination skin. Of course, this is a particular joy to have because you will actually need two sets of products, for either half of the face!

Normal skin

Usually, normal skin doesn’t struggle with acne breakouts or excessively oily or dry patches. It’s not overly sensitive and usually reacts well to most beauty products.

Lucky, eh?

Acne-prone skin

While most people with acne tend to also be an oily skin type, you might have an acne tendency and still have dry skin.

So in the guide below, we’ll look at how to deal with acne both from the point of view of oily skin types and dry types!

Sensitive skin

Last but not least, sensitive skin is different from dry and acne-prone.

It usually flushes easily and can be easily irritated by skincare products or environmental factors.

Bonus – Mature skin

Okay, all of the above types age pretty much the same.

Wrinkles, fine lines, dehydration, sagginess… you know the drill. But if you’re dealing with mature skin, your entire skincare routine is thrown on its head.

So in this article, we’ll be looking at mature skin as an honorary skin “type”.

So, what’s the right facial serum based on your skin type?

Now that you have a fair idea of how you can identify your particular skin type, let’s take a closer look at what plant-based oils you should incorporate in your skincare routine and why!

Always check the labels as many poor-quality serums contain large amounts of silicone, a relatively cheap ingredient that lends a silky texture but has no added benefits.

Most serums fall into two types – those packed with antioxidants to protect the skin during the day and those designed to repair the skin overnight.

It is worth investing in both!

Oily skin

Again, oily skin is more often than not accompanied by breakouts, which are fun in their own right.

The first thing you want to do is stop the excess oil from being produced. However, this is easier said than done, since it’s all too easy to slip into the other extreme – excess drying your skin.

So you want to look for oily skincare products that gently dry, without being too harsh.

As it happens, these are also very good for acne-prone oily skin, because they also dry off the pimples. And by stopping excess oil from being produced, they also prevent it from clogging the pores… which is how you get acne in the first place.

The Balance Restoring Serum from Aarvani would be ideal, in this case, as it incorporates both tea tree oil and witch hazel, but also chamomile and cucumber extract.

Tea tree oil is great for oily skin because it’s powerfully drying but also recommended for acne-prone skin (1), because of its proven wound-healing effect (2).

Similarly, witch hazel is used to treat acne because it contains tannins, which have a potent antioxidant effect (3).

Interestingly enough, the chamomile and cucumber work together to soothe, hydrate, and rejuvenate your harried skin (4).

How to Choose the Right Facial Serum Based on Your Skin Type

Oily skin might also benefit from a more complex skincare regimen, such as a drying serum (with ingredients like Retinol) in the morning, combined with a gentle hydrator in the evenings.

If you’re looking to design your own skincare regimen, we suggest always sticking to multiple products from the same brand.

For example, the Aillea facial serum collection can be an ideal starting place to build your new routine!

Right Facial Serum Based on Your Skin Type

Yet another option you can try is the Reboot Serum from AVegan Beauty.

Formulated with salicylic acid, it acts as a mild exfoliator, helping you shed the dead skin cells (harder for people with oily skin).

Not only that, but it also promotes regeneration and a more even and replenished (5) skin tone, with the help of natural ingredients, such as Aloe Vera Extract.

Dry skin

It’s tempting to try and blast dry skin with heavy oil, but that may do more harm than good.

The truth is, with dry skin, you want a gentle moisturizer, so it might be best to avoid overly thick oils and ingredients.

For this, the Illuminating Brightening Oil Serum from Skin and Senses is particularly appropriate.

Why? It’s formulated with avocado oil (which stimulates collagen synthesis (6) and rejuvenates skin) and jojoba oil (a powerful humectant (7) that moisturizes dry skin).

Right Facial Serum Based on Your Skin Type

To build your own skincare routine for dry types, we suggest looking through various collections, such as the Skin Beautiful Organics collection, with its various hydrating facial serums.

These can often work great and even boost each other’s potency when combined, so really, the trick is figuring out what works best for you!

We’d also recommend searching for such a combination of products if you have dry skin but are dealing with acne.

Remember that, in that case, you’ll be wanting a product that is hydrating, but also stimulates skin cell regeneration, because honestly, that’s one of the best things you can do for your dry, acne-prone skin.

It can be a tad tricky figuring out a serum that is hydrating, but not clogging, but with enough time and patience, you can surely do it.

Sometimes, an anti-aging product can also work really well, because a lot of common aging problems like wrinkles are actually caused by drying skin.

So a product like the Dr. AV Day Serum might also work really well in treating dry skin types.

For one thing, the serum is formulated with sea buckthorn, which is an amazing source of nutrients (8) that can replenish dried-out skin.

It’s also useful for preventing excessive dryness (9) and boosting elasticity.

Again, this is something that people dealing with mature skin are in dire need of, but also if you’re struggling with dry skin, so feel free to give such products a try!

Combination skin

For combination skin, as we were just saying, things can be a little bit trickier.

Why? Because generally, the products that work really well for your oily patches can end up being too drying for your dry patches, and vice-versa.

It is more difficult caring for this type of skin, but with a bit of effort, you can look and feel your best.

For people with combination skin, we would recommend taking a careful look at the products described above for the two skin types involved, and carefully selecting the ones that seem to suit you best.

Try to steer clear of harsh ingredients that may irritate one condition or the other, and also steer clear from heavy oils.

As we’ve seen, those are not really helpful for dry skin and may end up clogging your oily skin even more.

A great oil, if your skin it’s divided into patches, might be the Indie Lee Squalane Facial Oil.

This inexpensive serum offers a special hydrating oil, as well as one that targets acne and excessive oiliness.

Sensitive skin

With sensitive skin, you’re looking at a lot of trial and error. You will need a product that is free of fragrance, phthalates, parabens, and pretty much any other chemical that might cause irritation. But then again, most of these chemicals are unhealthy for your skin to begin with, so really, you’re doing yourself a favor.

Because of how versatile sensitive skin is, it’s hard for us to recommend any product, but if we had to go with just one, we would opt for the V-Nutrient Serum by Julie Lindh.

This is a veritable powerhouse of natural ingredients, such as lavender oil (known for its ability to soothe irritated skin( (10) and vitamin E (a potent hydrator and source of natural antioxidants (11).

How to Choose the Right Facial Serum Based on Your Skin Type

Alternatively, you can try multiple serums (such as the excellent ones from the Amrita facial serum collection) until you find the one that works best on your particular type of skin!

Normal skin

Normal skin, luckily, can use a wide variety of products without kicking up too much fuss.

As the proud owner of normal skin, you’ll be able to browse any collection, such as the ECO Modern Essentials collection, and pick the serum that sounds the nicest to you.

Usually, someone with normal skin has the luxury of targeting one problem if they so wish (such as improved hydration, for example) or just choosing a maintenance serum.

If any of the above products sound appealing to you, then feel free to try them, as none of them contains anything to directly harm normal skin.

Mature kin

As for mature skin, you are again looking for something that will hydrate and stimulate skin cell turnover.

The faster your skin is able to produce new, healthy cells, the better it will look.

The Advanced Correcting Serum by Visha Skincare does this by throwing important ingredients such as Retinol (a Vitamin A derivative that stimulates collagen production (12)) and the aforementioned Vitamin E into the mix.

These help your skin regenerate, while also maintaining it hydrated, which is exactly what your mature skin needs.

How to Choose the Right Facial Serum Based on Your Skin Type

Alternatively, the Illuminating Perfecting Serum by Alteya Organics also uses the power of vitamin E, this time in the form of Pistachia Tree Oil, to rejuvenate your skin.

It also banks on hyaluronic acid, which is great for hydration because it literally binds moisture particles to your skin.

Lastly, the Facial Oil by IsaLazo also uses Vitamins A and E to help treat mature skin but also throws omega 6 into the mix.

This, in turn, feeds your skin the essential fatty acids it’s been craving, thus resulting in smoother, more youthful skin (13).

Bottom line

Unfortunately, in skin care, there is no one size fits all.

You will have to do your own trial and error before you can settle on one perfect facial serum. But hopefully, with this article, your job has been made just a little bit easier!

4 Incredible Benefits of Using a Plant-Based Facial Serum

Benefits of Using a Plant-Based Facial Serum

We are in a quays-permanent search for the perfect skincare products that will boost our appearance, and with that, our self-confidence.

We’re always on the lookout for new, healthy skincare products, particularly face care products to incorporate into our beauty routine, for better skin.

In this article, we’ll be discussing the benefits of using a plant-based facial serum, and why you should seriously consider getting one for your bedtime routine.

But before we do that, let’s talk a bit about what a face serum is supposed to do.

What is a facial serum, and how does it work?

At its core, a facial serum (any type, not just a plant-based one) is a very light moisturizer that is meant to absorb into the skin, and give you a plump, healthy glow.

While a facial serum is very similar to a regular moisturizer, it tends to be more concentrated, and often banks on certain vitamins and nutrients to improve the overall appearance of your skin.

So while a lot of women think it’s okay to skip the serum as long as they don’t forget moisturizer, that’s not quite true.

More often than not, a facial serum will support and boost the effects of a moisturizer!

They can be very effective, and are well worth adding to our regular routine, especially for the over 30s but not everyone knows exactly what they do and how to use them.

Why should you consider using plant-based serums?

A serum contains highly concentrated active ingredients to help hydrate, lift and firm our skin giving it a fresher, healthier look.

The container may look small compared to a pot of moisturizer but that’s because the serum doesn’t contain things like thickeners and sunscreens that can bulk out a normal moisturizer.

You only need a small amount of serum at a time and the surface layers of skin absorb it quickly and efficiently.

Serums almost always contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatories as well as hydrating and so-called anti-aging ingredients.

  • Some are made to target certain problems, such as wrinkles and fine lines, dark spots, or enlarged pores.
  • Some are specially designed to be used at night while others can be used night or morning.

All types of skin can benefit from serums, including oiler skin types.

Personally, we love everything plant-based because it often carries the same benefits (and often more) as store-bought products, without exposing you to any unhealthy and dangerous chemicals.

For the purpose of this article, we are focusing on the Plant-Based Reboot Facial Serum from Ecco Bella, as a reference point that can be used for all skin types as well as for sensitive and rosacea skin.

However, most of the benefits discussed below are true about all plant-based serums.

Choose your serum carefully for your particular skin needs. Although many are expensive, there are some good budget versions, so learn to study the labels and shop around.

Benefits of Using a Plant-Based Facial Serum

Check out the Plant-Based Reboot Serum on Ecco Bella – Price $65.00

Benefits of using a plant-based facial serum

1. They are great for combatting free radical damage

Without knowing it, you are exposed to free radicals every minute of your day.

Free radicals are present in the world around us and are chiefly caused by pollution.

Over the years, research had linked them (1) time and again to premature skin aging, dull and lifeless appearance, and other skin problems.

This is why you need your facial serum to fight against that free radical damage and what better way to do that than by channeling the antioxidant properties of plant extracts?

For example, the Reboot Serum from EccoBella, plant-based facial serum has a high Vitamin C content, and Vitamin C is considered the supreme antioxidant of the natural world.

We’ve already established that free radicals lead to aged, saggy skin, right?

Well, vitamin C has been shown to tighten skin (2) and boost collagen production (3), making your skin appear firm and youthful!

Related: Dull, Dry, or Acne-Prone Skin? These Natural Remedies Will Help Repair Your Skin

2. They boost moisture retention naturally

In that battle for healthier, well-moisturized skin, we should not be focusing on moisturizing the skin alone.

What we should be doing, through our skincare routine, is to support and boost the skin’s natural ability to retain moisture. Because without that, simply applying a layer of moisturizer is a very temporary solution.

Many natural serums, like the Ecco Bella one, contain vitamin E (also sometimes listed as tocopherol), one of nature’s chief moisture retention agents.

Research shows that (4) topically applied vitamin E boosts the skin’s ability to retain moisture and even strengthens the antioxidant defenses (5) against free radicals, so really, it’s two for the price of one.

3. It can protect the skin against UV damage

It’s a well-known fact that our skin requires permanent sun protection against the damaging effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays.

And while there are plenty of potent SPF creams out there, many of them are formulated using potentially dangerous chemicals.

What that means, essentially, is that you may well be exchanging one danger for another.

However, that’s not the case for plant-based skincare.

In the case of the Reboot Serum, the manufacturers harness the natural power of lycopene, a carotenoid extracted from tomatoes, to protect the skin against UV damage (6) naturally.

4. They’re an important, natural source of hydrocolloids

Hydrocolloids are molecules encountered in a wide range of plants and are actually really healthy for your skin.

They’re often used to counter various skin conditions, such as acne, because of their ability to kill internal toxins, while protecting the skin.

Now, your regular facial serum may also contain something similar to hydrocolloids, particularly because it’s such a useful ingredient.

However, it’s usually something that has been chemically engineered to mimic the effect of hydrocolloids, and it may well be exposing you to other dangers.

At the end of the day, it’s totally up to you whether you opt for a plant-based facial serum or a chemical one.

In the lines above, we’ve just outlined some important benefits of going natural.

Ultimately, a plant-based skincare product has mostly the same benefits as a ‘regular’ one but draws these benefits from nature, rather than a chemical source.

It stands to reason that this should be healthier for you.

Now, let’s talk a bit about how you should use that plant-based facial serum!

First things first, always perform a patch test when adding a new product to your skincare routine, to protect yourself against allergic reactions.

A facial serum can be used both in the morning and at night, or just once a day, as per your preference.

  • Start your skincare routine by cleansing the face with a gentle cleanser. You can check here if you need to learn more about the skin cleansing process and our recommended plant-based cleansers.
  • Also, remove any make-up from the face.
  • Next, apply a light toner if that is something you do (some people with sensitive skins may skip that), or spray yourself with some facial mist.
  • Clean your skin as usual and pat dry.
  • Next, it’s facial serum time.
  • Remember to always follow the serum’s particular instructions and not go overboard with it.
  • In this case, less is usually more, so take a small amount of serum and smooth it into the skin of the face, neck, and chest in gentle, circular motions with clean fingertips.
  • Spread the serum evenly on the skin, to the point where it’s lightly covered in serum (though not swamped by it, as that may cause irritation).
  • Wait for at least 3-5 minutes, or until the serum has been fully absorbed into the skin, and then apply your regular moisturizer, as normal.

Trying to Conceive: 9 Solutions When Medication Doesn’t Work – Even After 40

Trying to Conceive

Having a child is one of life’s greatest blessings.

For many women, it endows you with a new purpose and gives a sense of completeness and fulfillment that few other accomplishments can.

It is for that reason that most of us try to conceive, and it is also because of this that we feel great frustration when we’re unable to.

If you and your partner are having trouble getting pregnant, we urge you not to despair.

We know that’s not what you want to hear, especially in such trying times. But there are plenty of options and paths you can try in order to conceive a child, hence the do not despair part.

In this article, we’ll look at multiple alternative solutions and tips for conceiving, when the traditional, medical route has failed.

It can be quite tempting to just give up when you see medical efforts fail, but that is not the end of the road.

There are still several options to try, so let’s see what they are!

1. Change up your diet

They say we are what we eat, right?

Well, while diet alone can’t really be blamed for fertility troubles, it does impact our hormone levels, as well as other related aspects of our body.

This is why alternative experts and even many physicians recommend altering your diet if you’re looking to conceive.

For one thing, studies have shown that (1) boosting your folate intake can increase your chances of getting pregnant, both in the clinic, as well as the old-fashioned way (e.g. implantation).

And the same goes for your partner!

Another study from a few years back found a link between a diet rich in antioxidants (folate is an antioxidant, by the way) and boosted sperm quality.

So to increase your chances of getting pregnant, make sure you include some antioxidant-rich foods in your diet, such as:

  • Dark chocolate;
  • Berries;
  • Nuts;
  • Leafy greens (dark in color if possible);
  • Vegetables;
  • Fruit (especially citrus, which is rich in Vitamin C).

But don’t stop there.

Research has also unearthed (2) an interesting link between the food that is high in fiber and fertility, showing that those who consumed a lot of fiber (from cereal, to be specific) had fewer chances of suffering from infertility.

2. Stick to a healthy workout schedule

Exercise has lots of excellent benefits, of course, but did you know it might also be impacting your fertility chances?

While we understand that right now, you just don’t have the energy and drive to go for a jog, it might be a good idea to do so.

Studies have found (3)  that regular exercise can boost your fertility (and that of your partner), so why not join a gym together?

At the same time, you want to remember not to overdo it, because too much exercise (or alternatively, highly intense exercise) can actually prove detrimental to your conception efforts.

This means that while you’ll want to put in some yoga or go for the occasional run, you don’t want to go full bodybuilder here, as that, in turn, might also be a bad idea!

Your goal should be to maintain an active lifestyle and a healthy weight, since that may also boost your chances of getting pregnant.

3. Consider cutting back on work

We all know that prolonged high-stress situations can have various negative effects on our health, among which, they can decrease the chances of fertility.

Research has found (4) that people who are under a lot of pressure at their job or work long shifts on a regular basis may encounter fertility issues along the way.

This can be equally true and about your partner, so if one of you is experiencing fertility problems while also working a demanding job, don’t ignore the link between the two.

If that’s you, you might consider cutting back on work hours and, if possible, even changing your job, since a demanding job wouldn’t really be realistic anyway, once you have your baby.

It’s important to make active efforts to eliminate stress and relax, in order to allow your body to function optimally.

4. Meditate

We understand why you might be a little bit skeptical at this, but don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you magically think your baby into your womb!

But meditation can and often does play an important role in a couple’s struggle for fertility, for one simple reason: it improves balance.

Every time we are anxious, angry, or depressed (all those nasty feelings that are natural in this struggle),  affects our hormone levels.

These, in turn, are directly related to your fertility chances (5), because of course, you need to have hormonal balance in order to conceive a child.

This is where meditation can help.

By assuaging those nagging, worrying voices inside your mind, you are establishing a calmer, more composed mindset.

An improved mental balance breathes emotional and physical balance, as well.

We know it seems easier said than done – how can you not be angry in this situation? – but the truth is, your nerves aren’t doing you or your baby any favors.

Not really the meditating type?

That shouldn’t be a problem.

Nowadays, there are numerous guides out there who specialize in helping people struggling with infertility.

Circle&Bloom offer guided fertility meditations for those trying to conceive, and cater to various needs every step of the way.

What’s great about that is you’ll be able to take your meditations with you throughout your pregnancy – because keeping calm and mentally balanced is just as important when you’re carrying!

5. Try some supplements

While there are numerous supplements on the market out there, vendors as “fertility supplements”, few actually yield results.

And of course, we’re not going to claim any-one supplement is the unchallenged king of fertility.

Of course not. Since no two women are alike, the success rates of these supplements can vary wildly.

One supplement that worked well for someone you know might not have the same results for you, and vice-versa, and that’s to do with the fact that your two bodies are different.

You can check out here Vanchrozin minerals liquid concentrate that supports normal fertility.

All that being said, there are some interesting findings to do with natural supplements to boost fertility.

  • Bee pollen, for example, has been linked (6) to improved sperm quality and higher fertility rates in males, just as propolis has shown some promising (7) evidence that it may improve fertility in females.
  • Royal jelly, a by-product of bees, has also been linked to better reproductive health.

All of these natural ingredients have, at the very least, been linked to higher chances of conceiving.

And they are all also said to have numerous other health benefits, as well, so at least, we know they can’t hurt!

6. Give essential oils a try

No doubt you’ve heard it said that certain essential oils can boost your fertility, sperm quality, and so on.

And understandably, you’re probably doubtful.

So let’s talk a bit about which essential oils have actually been scientifically linked to improved fertility, and also how you might use them.

If you decide to use essential oils for fertility, we recommend doing so with the help of a diffuser.

While some oils are recommended for topical application, don’t use unauthorized oils on your skin.

Also, just because it’s essential doesn’t mean it’s good.

There are numerous essential oils, such as basil, aniseed, camphor, and pennyroyal, which you’d best be advised to avoid while you’re trying to conceive.

7. Avoid excess

While this isn’t a way to get pregnant per se, it’s an important thing to keep in mind, as you work to conceive.

As you might expect, going too far in any one way can have a seriously damaging effect both on your body and your chances to get pregnant.

So try to aim for the right balance in your life, even though that may be hard to do as you wobble under the obvious frustrations in this situation.

Some experts claim there may be a link (11) between a high caffeine intake and infertility.

Though research on that is fairly limited and more needs to be discovered to give a definite answer, we figure it can’t hurt to tone down the excess.

That means, if you normally thrive on three cups of coffee, maybe you’ll want to go down to two, and even one, if possible.

Carefully, however, since caffeine withdrawal is a very real and unpleasant occurrence that might also impact your chances of getting pregnant.

Similarly, you’ll want to watch your alcohol intake and make sure you don’t go overboard.

Studies have shown (12) that there may be a relation between excessive alcohol consumption and infertility.

As with caffeine, more studies need to be performed before we have a definitive answer, but we still think that moderating your alcohol intake can’t hurt.

Drinking too much alcohol not only affects judgment and cognitive functions but also has a negative impact on the reproductive system.

By wreaking havoc on your hormones (13), alcohol intake may inhibit your fertility chances, so remember, moderation is key.

8. Don’t follow a strict sex schedule

This probably goes against everything you’ve been told, right?

If you’ve been trying to conceive for a while, you probably know that in order to get pregnant, you need to have sex during ovulation.

And we’re not saying you shouldn’t. We’re merely counseling against following a strict, rigid sex schedule, and only having sex on those days.

While many couples trying to conceive “save themselves” for those potent few days, it might actually be beneficial to begin your efforts a few days ahead.

Why? Because sperm remains in the body for up to five days after it’s been released (14), and if you begin having sex before your ovulation days, you’re actually increasing your chances of getting pregnant.

Another reason why you won’t want to follow a strict schedule is that it adds stress which, as we’ve seen, can have a seriously damaging effect (15) on your ability to conceive.

Not only that, but it also puts a lot of pressure on your partner, since he’ll really feel like he must “perform” during those fertile few days.

In recent years, studies have unearthed (16) a clear link between stress and decreased sperm quality.

9. Shift your mindset

Well, to be fair, all of the above methods are related, since they all somehow impact your mindset and mentality.

It’s natural that in this time, you focus on your physical welfare and do what you can to boost fertility on a physical level.

But it’s important to remember that pregnancy is so much more.

It’s a mental thing, and that’s not just because of the obvious relationship between stress and fertility.

In order to improve your chances of getting pregnant, you also need to focus on shifting your mindset to the right place.

For some, this might mean meditation or yoga.

For others, it may be a long walk or listening to their favorite song.

Everyone’s a little different, but as you try to get pregnant, make time for the things that make you happy, and more importantly, relaxed.

The takeouts

Yes, conceiving can be a laborious and complex task, but you also need to make time for yourself.

Don’t let your pregnancy efforts take over your entire life, because you are not doing yourself or your baby any favors in doing that.
