1. Change up your diet

Exercise has lots of excellent benefits, of course, but did you know it might also be impacting your fertility chances?

While we understand that right now, you just don’t have the energy and drive to go for a jog, it might be a good idea to do so.

Studies have found (3)  that regular exercise can boost your fertility (and that of your partner), so why not join a gym together?

At the same time, you want to remember not to overdo it, because too much exercise (or alternatively, highly intense exercise) can actually prove detrimental to your conception efforts.

3. Consider cutting back on work

We all know that prolonged high-stress situations can have various negative effects on our health, among which, they can decrease the chances of fertility.

Research has found (4) that people who are under a lot of pressure at their job or work long shifts on a regular basis may encounter fertility issues along the way.

This can be equally true and about your partner, so if one of you is experiencing fertility problems while also working a demanding job, don’t ignore the link between the two.

While some oils are recommended for topical application, don’t use unauthorized oils on your skin.

Also, just because it’s essential doesn’t mean it’s good.

There are numerous essential oils, such as basil, aniseed, camphor, and pennyroyal, which you’d best be advised to avoid while you’re trying to conceive.

7. Avoid excess

While this isn’t a way to get pregnant per se, it’s an important thing to keep in mind, as you work to conceive.

As you might expect, going too far in any one way can have a seriously damaging effect both on your body and your chances to get pregnant.

So try to aim for the right balance in your life, even though that may be hard to do as you wobble under the obvious frustrations in this situation.

Some experts claim there may be a link (11) between a high caffeine intake and infertility.

Though research on that is fairly limited and more needs to be discovered to give a definite answer, we figure it can’t hurt to tone down the excess.

That means, if you normally thrive on three cups of coffee, maybe you’ll want to go down to two, and even one, if possible.

Carefully, however, since caffeine withdrawal is a very real and unpleasant occurrence that might also impact your chances of getting pregnant.

Similarly, you’ll want to watch your alcohol intake and make sure you don’t go overboard.

Studies have shown (12) that there may be a relation between excessive alcohol consumption and infertility.

As with caffeine, more studies need to be performed before we have a definitive answer, but we still think that moderating your alcohol intake can’t hurt.

Drinking too much alcohol not only affects judgment and cognitive functions but also has a negative impact on the reproductive system.

By wreaking havoc on your hormones (13), alcohol intake may inhibit your fertility chances, so remember, moderation is key.

 

8. Don’t follow a strict sex schedule

This probably goes against everything you’ve been told, right?

If you’ve been trying to conceive for a while, you probably know that in order to get pregnant, you need to have sex during ovulation.

And we’re not saying you shouldn’t. We’re merely counseling against following a strict, rigid sex schedule, and only having sex on those days.

While many couples trying to conceive “save themselves” for those potent few days, it might actually be beneficial to begin your efforts a few days ahead.

Why? Because sperm remains in the body for up to five days after it’s been released (14), and if you begin having sex before your ovulation days, you’re actually increasing your chances of getting pregnant.

Another reason why you won’t want to follow a strict schedule is that it adds stress which, as we’ve seen, can have a seriously damaging effect (15) on your ability to conceive.

Not only that, but it also puts a lot of pressure on your partner, since he’ll really feel like he must “perform” during those fertile few days.

9. Shift your mindset

Well, to be fair, all of the above methods are related, since they all somehow impact your mindset and mentality.

It’s natural that in this time, you focus on your physical welfare and do what you can to boost fertility on a physical level.

But it’s important to remember that pregnancy is so much more.

It’s a mental thing, and that’s not just because of the obvious relationship between stress and fertility.

For others, it may be a long walk or listening to their favorite song.
